Mike Leone is recognized as an accomplished pharmaceutical sales executive with broad therapeutic expertise that drives performance. His over 25 years of experience and leadership includes positions of increasing responsibility at Bristol-Myers Squibb, First Horizon Pharmaceuticals, Eyetech Pharmaceuticals and Takeda Pharmaceuticals North America. As an independent pharmaceutical consultant, one of his most noteworthy contributions was reorganizing a major biotech company’s Managed Care organization and developing the template for their hospital sales force, both of which are in use today.
As founder and president of Strategic HealthCare Resources, LLC, Mike is consulting for a number of companies in strategic and leadership roles. He has helped companies create sales force deployment models, developed compensation models, served as a direct customer liaison, consulted on clinical trial focus areas, and added structure and leadership expertise to a growing sales organization.
Praised for his leadership, coaching and functional skills, Mike has led national and regional sales teams to consistent success, attaining and exceeding goals. He has also led all facets of sales force operations and infrastructure development, including sales strategy, alignment, sales force automation and budgeting, at a start-up biotech company. He has transformed organizational cultures, strengthened existing infrastructures, and spearheaded organizational and developmental growth to match stellar sales growth at a mid-size and growing pharmaceutical company.
Spending the majority of his career at Bristol-Myers Squibb, Mr. Leone held numerous positions of increasing responsibility. These positions included National Director, Federal & Institutional Sales, a position in which he rebuilt the Hospital Sales Team and strengthened BMS’ role and commitment to the VA and military customers. During this time, Mike developed the mission and revitalized the morale of the 275 Hospital Managers and Representatives, and spearheaded the launch of the first fourth-generation cephalosporin antibiotic, as well as a major cardiovascular platelet agent. He was also a key contributor in the launch of additional injectable anti-infective’s, CNS agents, and numerous cardiovascular agents. He also played a key role in National Accounts / Managed Care, where he developed and coordinated major account contracts and support programs. As the Eastern Region Director for the Bristol-Myers Squibb Hospital & Institutional Sales Group, he successfully led his team to achieve and exceed their goals in every year of the Group’s existence.
Mr. Leone has broad therapeutic experience in categories such as cardiovasculars, psychotherapeutics, community and hospital anti-infective’s, ophthalmology, and diabetes.
Mr. Leone earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from the University of South Florida. To further strengthen his business and leadership skills, Mr. Leone has attended numerous executive education courses at the Wharton, Darden and Kellogg Schools of Business. He has also been recognized in multiple editions of “Who’s Who”.
Mr. Leone and his wife reside in the Atlanta area, and are the proud parents of two sons.
